Dick Horner Memorial Trial

Sunday 25th February saw Richard Sadler take the win once again at the Dick Horner Memorial Trial held by Richmond Motor Club. At the event the Club raised £790 to be donated to fellow trials rider Michael Brown and his family, who are raising funds to support their 3 and a half month old son Rio who has been diagnosed with Microvillus Inclusion Disease (MVD).

Over 70 riders set off to tackle 3 laps of 12 sections on a rather muddy Main Course and it was a good turnout for the Conducted Course, with 13 youngsters competing in smaller sections.

It was a difficult day for many riders, but scores stayed consistent with last week’s trial held near Grinton. On the Hard Course, Richard Sadler (Vertigo) had a convincing win on just 13 marks lost, followed by Jonathan Richardson (Montesa) in second on 29 marks lost, and Cameron Brice (Sherco) with 34 marks lost in third place.

On the Clubman A “Green” Course James Cameron (GASGAS) took the top position as he did in 2024, dropping just 21 marks. Martyn Alderson (Beta) came in second after losing 30 marks, and Graham Tales (Montesa) was just behind him in third, on 32 marks lost. Koby Smith (Beta) and Josh Dent (Beta) tackled the Youth Green Course, finishing on 55 and 72 marks respectively.

Rider 14 – Toby Stable

First on the Clubman B Course was Paul Astwood (GASGAS) on just 8 marks lost, closely followed by Paul Dennis (BSA) in the twinshock class on 9 marks lost. Allan Richardson (TRRS) came in third after losing 13 marks.

The youth riders did well on the Main Course, with Joseph Larkin (Beta) finishing first in the Youth B Class with 42 marks lost, closely followed by Bailey Huntbach (Beta) on 44 marks. Matthew Hall (Scorpa) rounded off the podium on 60 marks lost. In the Youth C Class, Isaac Tiplady (Beta) did exceptionally well to ride the Clubman sections on the Main Route, losing 110 marks.

The Youths on the Conducted Course had a challenging day with the weather – Edward Gospel (Beta) came first in the Youth D Medium Wheel Class after losing 61 marks. Francis Tiplady (Oset) and William Nicholson (TRRS) finished in second and third place, dropping 69 and 76 marks respectively. Oscar Handley (Oset) was the only Youth D Small Wheel Class rider and did well to finish with 58 marks lost.

Richmond Motor Club would like to say well done to all riders, and a huge thank you to all observers, landowners, Clerk of Courses and helpers, Secretary and everyone else involved in the running of the trial. The next trial will be held on Sunday 16th March.
