Busto raises his game with GASGAS!
Spanish star Jaime Busto hit the headlines at the start of the year when it was announced he had returned to GASGAS after leaving the manufacturer at the end of 2018 and it was immediately apparent that the move suited him right down to the ground.
Straight away his indoor results were impressive with four consecutive podium finishes – including a victory – in the FIM X-Trial World Championship, but it was outdoors where his form was simply sensational!
After trading wins and second-placed finishes with Toni Bou through the opening three rounds of the 2023 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship in Spain, Portugal and Japan, it was crystal clear that Busto and GASGAS were a match made in heaven.
“I’ve really enjoyed riding the GASGAS since the very first minute,” said the twenty-six-year-old. “I felt my level was higher, that I could reach things that I couldn’t before, but to be honest I am still finding the limits of the bike. Some months passed from my first contact with my GP bike and sometimes I still get surprised with some reactions. I mean, once I really know and set up my bike one-hundred per cent I feel my level could be even better.”
While Bou has now opened up a comfortable lead heading into the seventh and final round of the Hertz FIM Trial World Championship, the TrialGP of France at Vertolaye on 1-3 September, Busto has continued to build.
Finishing off the podium just once out of twelve scoring days, he is enjoying the best season of his career – although he is still striving to raise his game even higher.
“You try always to focus on your weaknesses of course, but to become World Champion you need to work and focus with the whole package. You can’t leave anything behind when you are fighting with a rider like Toni.
“Our season is very long. We start early January with the indoors and we finish late November. We need to be mentally ready during the whole year. Of course, you work always with the calendar on your mind to understand when you can slow down and restart again to be fully charged for the key moments.”
With a twenty-nine-point deficit to Bou and a maximum of forty points up for grabs in Vertolaye, Busto’s dream of wrestling the TrialGP crown away from the record-breaking champion this year is not over just yet and, being a fierce competitor, he wants to do it while his compatriot is at his best.
“It is clear that I want to beat Toni! It has been very exciting but I want more, we want more! I think it is shown that we are close to our goal. As I said, from the moment I will be one-hundred per cent in sync with my bike we will be one step closer.
“It is my only goal. My whole life turns around it and I am determined to get it and this should happen with Toni riding at his highest level.”
The action from Vertolaye gets under way at 09:00 CET on 2 September and will be streamed LIVE on FIM-MOTO.TV.
