Jack Price and Michelin Win the 2024 Scott Trial

Only two riders, Sammy Miller 1967 – 1970 and Graham Jarvis 1996 – 1999 have won four consecutive Scott Trials and on Saturday the 12th of October 2024 Jack Price (Sherco) made history as he joined this exclusive club. Having taken his first win in 2021, the 27 year old was in stunning form on the Sherco as he added the Alfred A Scott memorial trophy to his Scottish Six Days Trial win earlier in the year, once again using Michelin tyres.

Richard Sadler (Vertigo)

Organized by the Richmond Motor Club, the Scott Trial has a strong sporting heritage covering over 100 years and is unique in the fact that the rider’s time and observation scores are calculated together to find the overall winner. The event is based around Reeth and starts and ends high up on the North Yorkshire moors above the old market town of Richmond on the Marske road.

Billy Green (Scorpa)

Saturday’s weather for the event was very mixed, a cold but sunny start to the day welcomed the riders early on in the trial before a heavy cold rain storm fell on them as they made their way into the closing stages, having tackled the 80 miles single lap course covering 76 sections. Jonathan Richardson (Montesa) who finished in 7th position, set the fastest time of 05.00.26 with Price the best on observation on 19 marks lost.

Team Sherco

The top three finishers Jack Price (Sherco), Richard Sadler (Vertigo) and Billy Green (Scorpa) all chose Michelin trials tyres and Sherco won the manufacturers trophy with Price, Jack Peace and Harry Turner in the three-man team. Over 75% of the entry of the 168 starters chose Michelin, a true testament to the quality of these superior tyres in the toughest trial of them all, the Scott.

Jack Price: “When I first won the Scott back in 2021 the thought of four consecutive wins was only a dream. I was happy with the double in 2022 and then when I won again in 2023, I started to focus on joining the great Scott Trial riders Sammy Miller and Graham Jarvis with four wins. The Yorkshire Moors are very unforgiving and my first thought as I started was to concentrate on my observation score as I pushed all day to try and catch the front runners and keep the time penalties down. I maintained a steady pace and rode at a rhythm which I was comfortable with and enjoying my riding, by the end I was the second rider back to the finish.

Preparation for this event is a key factor to winning and I enjoyed a trouble-free day as the Sherco never missed a beat and I still felt pretty fresh at the end after over five hours of riding. My Michelin tyres were at their very best and I kept my 100% record of no punctures over the last four years, despite the nature of the rocky and challenging terrain. The tyres inspired confidence in the sections when I was holding on to keep my feet-up on the footrests and they performed beyond what I expected, such is the high level of grip from them. I would like to close by saying a huge thank you to everyone who makes this legendry event happen and to my super support crew.”
